I hope that everyone had a fabulous weekend! Would you believe that I started this post about month ago? I had it almost ready to go, but then I just had other posts that I wanted to go up. I am very excited to finally be able to share this with you. This is an easy to make chex mix that would be great at any fall gatherings you may have. It would go great with this Apple Cider Sangria.
Now, it did take me three tries to get this right. The first time I tried it in the crock pot, and it burned. Then I tried it in the oven, but the temperature must have been to high, since it burned again. Third times the charm. I cooked it low and slow, and man oh man, were the results delicious. My husband and MIL were also impressed with the results (as they also tried the first two failed tries).
Making it is so simple. Mix all the dry ingredients (except the spices) in a bowl. Yes, the picture is from when I tried to do it in the crock pot, but I still liked how nice it looks. And if I’m being honest, the crock pot would be a good vessel to mix everything in.
Melt the butter over low heat. Add the rest of the wet ingredients and the spices. Pour over snack mix, and stir until everything is coated. Spread out onto two cookie sheets and bake at 200 degrees for two- two and a half hours. Take out, let cool a little, and enjoy!
Try not to eat it all in one sitting, this stuff is really addicting.
- 8 cups chex (any type will do)
- 1 1/2 cups peanuts
- 2 cups pretzels
- 2 cups cheerios
- 2 cups goldfish crackers
- 1 stick butter
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 cup Italian dressing
- 3 teaspoons garlic powder
- 3 teaspoons onion powder
- 3 teaspoons season salt
- Mix the first five ingredients in a big bowl.
- Melt the butter over low heat. Add soy sauce, dressing, and spices.
- Pour this over the mixture in the bowl.
- Spread over two cookie sheets, and bake for 2.5 hours at 200 degrees.
See how easy that was? It does take some time to make, but you really do have to cook it low and slow. If the oven temperature is too high, then it will burn. And no one likes a burnt snack mix. Be sure to share if you love the recipe!
