So I totally meant to get this posted earlier than the day before Valentine’s Day, but, that didn’t happen… better late than never though, right?
It took me a little bit, but I created a pretty yummy red velvet cookie recipe.
This recipe uses powdered buttermilk. You can find it in the baking isle of your grocery store. If you try using liquid buttermilk, it will be way to wet and you won’t be able to roll the dough.
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 1 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup powder sugar
- 1/4 cup pwder butter milk
- 1 cup butter
- 2-3 tablespoons mil
- 1-2 tablespoons red food coloring
- 1 teasspoon vinegar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 egg
Servings:
Instructions
- Cream butter and sugar together.
- Add egg, vanilla, milk and red food coloring to butter mixture.
- Combine flour, baking powder, powdered buttermilk, and cocoa together
- Add dry mixture to wet, then add vinegar. Stir. If to dry add a little more milk.
- Roll dough to 1/2-3/4 inch thick, use cookie cutters to cut into desired shape, and bake for 7-10 minutes at 350 degrees,
- Let cool, then decorate using either royal icing, or cream cheese frosting.

While most red velvet deserts are decorated with cream cheese frosting, I decided to go with royal icing.
I also decorated a bunch of sugar cookies.
On Friday we had some of the my moms club over to decorate sugar cookies. It was tons of fun. I think I’ll be cleaning up sprinkles for the next year! 😉
I haven’t posted any pictures of the girls lately, so here are a few. 🙂
I’ve gotta say, I love how much Autumn looks at Annabelle. She smiles so big when she sees her big sister. 🙂 |
